The Mendelssohn Scholarship for composers is usually awarded every other year. The next award will be in 2021. The value of the award varies from year to year.

Music students below the age of 30 on 1st April in the year of the award are eligible. The award shall be expended by the elected Scholar in furtherance of his/her musical education in Britain or in musical centres abroad.

An application form together with the official rules will be available in December 2020.

Due to the current pandemic it has been decided to defer the 2020 Mendelssohn Scholarship.
We hope to make the award in 2021.

Any composers wishing to apply for the scholarship in 2021 should write to in December 2020 for further information about the application process.

Composers who submitted a postal application for the 2020 award c/o the Royal Academy of Music, have had their scores and paperwork returned.
